<br />Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />Tuesday, February 13 <br /> <br />1) Call to Order <br />Jill Bergquist called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. Chair Alexis Orozs expected to arrive <br />after 7 pm due to another commitment. <br /> <br />2) Roll Call <br />Members present: Jill Bergquist, Rita Stanoch, Phillip Crump, Howard Wagner, Issac <br />Afwerke, Thelma McKenzie, Stephen Smith, Alexis Orosz and staffliaison - Christine <br />Butterfield. <br /> <br />Members Absent: Susan Oliphant and Brenda Boily-Salmanpour. <br /> <br />3) Approval of Minutes <br />No minutes to approve. Staff liaison directed to issue with the next meeting packet. <br /> <br />4) Introduction of New Members <br />Commissioner Bergquist introduced and welcomed the new commissioners: Rita Stanoch, <br />Phillip Crump and Howard Wagner <br /> <br />5) Community Outreach <br />The Commission discussed and offered a number of ideas: conduct meetings at different <br />locations; identify existing community events to collaborate; continue production of video; <br />produce and operate a game show on human rights that targets youth; and participate in the <br />Rose parade. <br /> <br />6) Update Bias/Hate Response <br />The Commission would like to see the updated form letter and network list at the next <br />meeting. Also, the Commission requested that a Police Department representative attend and <br />speak about the intake process and reactions to last year's training session at the next <br />meeting. <br /> <br />7) Human Rights Essay Contest <br />Butterfield asked if the Commissioners would like a reminder call about the event on <br />2/26/01. Alexis reviewed the winners and honorable mentions. The Commission agreed to <br />ask the prizes winners to read their essays. <br /> <br />8) Old Business <br />Commissioner Bergquist requested that the City produce more flyers for kiosks and library. <br />Bergquist will also provide an AFS update at the next meeting. <br /> <br />9) New Business/Anuouncements <br />Commissioner Orosz provided staff a copy of Martin Luther King Day celebration ideas for <br />the Commission's files. <br />
