Building New and Strengthening Existing Partnerships with Community and Businesses Larry
Voeller reported that a letter was sent to the hotels in Roseville, offering the Commissions interest
and willingness to meet with them to discuss human rights issues. The letter asked hotels to contact
the Commission, but we have not heard from any. Commissioners asked Carolyn Curti to follow up
with Dino LoBaido, Roseville Visitors Association Director, to see if there was any discussion
about the letter.

Thelma McKenzie and Larry Voeller will discuss whether to send additional letters and to whom.

Proclamations

Carolyn Curti explained to the Commission that she writes several proclamations each year to
commemorate special months i.e. Black History Month, Women's History Month, Martin Luther
King Day. She asked Commissioners for help in providing background information and additional
commemorative months. Commissioners requested that the proclamations be posted on the Human
Rights Web page.

Roseville Area Schools Comprehensive Diversity Plan

Karen Vnuk reported that the Diversity Committee is considering a multi-cultural day and/or
speakers for students and teachers. They are also looking for assistance in cultural training.
Specific goals that they want to work on are training for district employees to effectively
communicate with families and the community and attracting and retaining diverse families and
teachers. Two issues are that people of color are not getting hired and if they do, they do not stay.

Commissioners discussed ways to help welcome new teachers and to encourage them to stay in the
community.

Commissioners asked Karen to invite RAS Diversity Coordinator Johanna Eager to the May
meeting to brainstorm ideas.

Carolyn Curti will put together a list of City resources, including Roseville's New Resident Packet
and information about low interest home loans available through City programs.

Miscellaneous

Thelma McKenzie reminded Commissioners of the League of Minnesota Human Rights
Commissions annual meeting on September 19, 2003. She would like to present Roseville Area
Schools EMID plan.

Martha Hardesty moved and Howard Wagner seconded that the meeting adjourn. Meeting
adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
