Motion passed unanimously.

Rose Parade

Carolyn Curti provided Commissioners with nine bags of candy and stickers to distribute at
the Parade. Commissioners Ann Keeney, Smith and Venters plan to ride in the parade along
with several of the essay contest winners. Commissioners discussed getting t-shirts with the
Human Rights Commission to wear in future parades.

Discussion of Community Forum

Commissioners had an extensive discussion on who to invite to the October forum, the
format, how to promote, how to involve schools and other issues. Commissioner Smith said
he wanted speakers who could talk about ways the Patriot Act has been used to deal with
other law enforcement issues. He also suggested that we look for information about how the
act has affected people who have political clout, and not necessarily how it affects
immigrants. Other commissioners agreed that they want someone who can talk about the
Patriot Act's affect on civil liberties. Commissioners discussed whether it would be better to
have the forum at the Skating Center or in the Council Chambers. They want to know if the
forum could be taped if is at the Skating Center.

Commissioner Delmore asked what the follow up from the forum will be. How does the
Commission plan to carry this discussion forward? Commissioner Keeney and Delmore
agreed to work with the local schools to get students to attend the forum and to possibly
develop curricula ideas.

After continued discussion of speakers, Commissioners agreed that they would like to hear
from all sides on the issue. They requested that Carolyn Curti contact both US Attorney Tom
Heffelfinger and Attorney General Mike Hatch to see if they or someone from their staff

I
