<br />1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />4 <br />5 <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 <br />11 <br />12 <br />13 <br />14 <br />15 <br />16 <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 <br />28 <br />29 <br />30 <br />31 <br />32 <br />33 <br />34 <br />35 <br />36 <br />37 <br />38 <br />39 <br />40 <br />41 <br />42 <br />43 <br /> <br />City of <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 11, 2007 <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Chair Janet Delmore; Commissioners Tam McGehee, Thelma McKenzie, and <br />Bob Venters <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Commissioners Philip Crump and Pam Bosch <br /> <br />Others Present: <br /> <br />City Manager Bill Malinen; Roseville School District No. 623 <br />Superintendent Dr. John Thein; Johanna Eager, Coordinator - Office of <br />Equity and Integration - Roseville Area Schools (based at Fairview <br />Community Center); Scott Allen, Principal at Little Canada Elementary <br />School; and Recording Secretary Sheila Stowell. <br /> <br />Call to Order: <br /> <br />Chair Delmore called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and welcomed <br />newly-reappointed Commissioner Thelma McKenzie back to the <br />Commission. <br /> <br />Meeting with Roseville Superintendent Dr. John Thein <br />Chair welcomed representatives of the Roseville Area School District No. 623; opening dialogue <br />for ways for the City of Roseville and the Human Rights Commission to become more of a <br />partner with the school in addressing changing demographics and diversity in the community to <br />ensure that Roseville is and remains a welcoming community. <br /> <br />Ms. Eager provided demographic information from the district's website regarding changing <br />demographics in the community as well as the district. <br /> <br />Dr. Thein reminded the HRC that School District No. 623 represented seven municipalities, with <br />only two ofthose municipalities, Little Canada and Falcon Heights, entirely within the School <br />District and the other municipalities split among several districts. <br /> <br />A bench handout entitled, "Roseville Area Schools Equity Vision," attached hereto and made a <br />part thereof, was provided Ms. Eager, and areas of the document reviewed by Commissioners <br />and school district staff regarding the district's vision; their policy regarding bullying <br />prohibition; and their commitment to R.E.A.L. (Resources, Equity, Achievement, and <br />Leadership) among staff and students. Ms. Eager summarized some demographic information <br />and referred commissioners to the district's website www.roseville.kI2.mn.us/schools/dc.cfm <br />for more detailed information (i.e., by grade, specific ethnic diversity, and projected growth and <br />proportionality). <br /> <br />Commissioner McGehee arrived at this time, 6:37 p.m. <br />
