When remodeling City Hall and Public Works we took advantage of natural light to <br />4 reduce reliance on artificial lights. Lights are on timers and sensors which turn on and off <br />5 automatically. Heating and cooling system are highly energy efficient. The City captures <br />6 "waste heat" and uses it to help heat the PD garage. <br />7 . The City built a state of the art sand and salt storage facility to prevent waste and runoff. <br />8 . The City uses organic fertilizers (when appropriate) on City property. <br />9 . The City promotes native grasses on City property and at residents' homes. Native <br />10 grasses do not require as much maintenance, water or fertilizers as non-native species. <br />II . The City enacted an ordinance to regulate the use of phosphorous fertilizers on private <br />12 and public property. The City requires cOl11111ercial fertilizers applicators to be licensed. <br />13 . Roseville's snowplows have the technology to ensure that we use the minimum of salt <br />14 and sand on ice necessary to keep roads safe. <br />IS . The City sweeps City streets at least twice a year to remove litter and prevent it from <br />16 getting into lakes and streams. Debris is screened and sand is reused. <br />17 . The City retrofitted traffic signals with LED lights to dramatically reduce energy <br />18 consumption. <br />19 . The City is committed to preserving green spaces. The City meets the requirements to be <br />20 a Tree City USA. Each year the City plants new trees and shrubs on City property and <br />21 makes trees and sluubs available at a lower cost through the Friends of the Ramsey <br />22 County Parks program. <br />23 . The City has made a strong commitment to residential recycling. The City promotes the <br />24 use ofHHW disposal sites, compost bins, rain barrels, rain gardens and the Twin Cities <br />25 Free Market. The City sponsors a clean up day to help residents properly dispose of <br />26 unwanted items. <br />27 . The City works with the Met Council and the Housing Resource Center to help residents <br />28 make their homes more energy efficient. <br />29 . The City received several federal "brownfields" grants to assist with cleaning up <br />30 contaminated propelties. <br />31 . City staff practice good recycling/reuse measures including purchasing recycled paper, <br />32 electronic distribution of documents, using reclaimed paper and two sided printing, <br />33 recycling and compo sting. <br />34 . The City considers fuel economy when purchasing vehicles; however, vehicles must meet <br />35 their intended use which takes the highest priority. <br />36 . The City maintains paths to encourage walking and biking. The City is taking part in the <br />37 Ramsey County Walkable Communities program studying ways to encourage residents to <br />38 rely less on their vehicles. <br />39 . The City is currently studying the feasibility of a geothermal heating and cooling at the <br />40 Skating Center. <br />41 . The City is a member of Mimlesota Materials Exchange which allows businesses and <br />42 govermnents to give away reusable materials that the City no longer needs. <br />43 . The city passed a Shoreline Ordinance to protect the City's groundwater, lakes and <br />44 ponds. <br />
