<br />1~~ <br />.~.. <br />Human Rights Commission <br />Purpose: <br />The Commission is appointed by and serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council in the <br />area of Human Rights. <br />• Provides a vehicle for citizen input concerning human rights issues <br />• Monitors and keeps the council advised concerning human rights issues in the City. <br />• Assists in carrying out the purpose of the Minnesota Human Rights Act. <br />• Provides public education activities concerning human rights issues. <br />• Promotes a positive human rights climate in the community. <br />• Resolves discrimination complaints through an informal mediation process. <br />• The Commission does not handle complaints internal to the City organization. <br />• Size: <br />Ten members <br />Meeting Schedule• <br />Second Tuesday of each month from 7:OOpm-8:OOpm at City Hall <br />Role of Individual Members• <br />• Participate in Commission meetings <br />Provide ideas and suggestions concerning public education and promotional activities <br />regarding human rights. <br />Assist in planning and organizing events and activities. <br />• Monitor the Human Rights climate in the community and identify problems and issues. <br />• Obtain training in the "No Fault" mediation process and serve as a mediator to resolve <br />discrimination complaints. <br />• Participate in public education and promotional events regarding human rights. <br />• Ensure the confidentiality of both parties in the No Fault grievance processes. <br />
