However, there are numerous lakes to boat on
within a short drive. Larger boats are usually found on
White Bear Lake, north on Highway 61, the St. Croix River,
east on Highway 36 to the Wisconsin border (about 30 miles),
or the Mississippi River. Indoor swimming can found at the
Fairview Community Center, one of the health clubs, or at
the YMCA, on Lexington Avenue, just north of County Road E.
Outdoor swimming in the city is restricted to Lake
Josephine. Other lake swimming is at Lake Owasso (beach is
not in Roseville), Lake Johanna, Island Lake, Phalen Lake,
Keller Lake, and Gervias Lake. There is no downhill skiing
• in Roseville. However, there is short downhill skiing in
Como Park and crossed country skiing on the Como Park and
University golf courses. The only real downhill skiing in
the metro area is at Bunker Hill, south on I-35, just beyond
where I-35-E and 35-W merge.
There are several golf courses within Roseville as well as
several others within a few
minutes drive. In Roseville,
there is the Municipal
Cedarholm 9 hole course on
Hamline Avenue, at County Road
B-2. Then there is the
Midland Hills Country Club, at
the western edge of Roseville.
Close by are Como Park
Municipal course, just a half
mile south on Lexington Avenue
in St. Paul, the University of
Minnesota course, west on
Larpenteur Avenue, in Falcon
Heights.
