Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, July 14, 2008
Page 9
Ayes: Roe; Pust;
Nays: Ihlan.
Motion carried.
Roll Call
Willmus; and Klausing.
9. General Ordinances for Adoption
10. Presentations
a. Presentation of the Police Unity Tour
Police Chief Carol Sletner introduced Detective Marc Schultz, formerly Roseville
School Liaison Officer for several years, and now back serving in investigations
for the department.
Roseville Police Detective Marc Schultz presented information on the non-profit
bike riding tour organization committed to spreading awareness and raising
money for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial (Police Unity Tour),
through arrival from various locations around the country to the memorial in
Washington, D.C. Detective Schultz advised that the purpose of the unity tour
and NLEOM is to spread awareness about the NLEOM, to raise monetary support
for NLEOM and the museum, and to honor officers who have made the ultimate
sacrifice.
Detective Schultz advised that more information, along with options for making
donations, was available at www.policeunitytour.org; with officers participating
in the Presidential Ceremony and candlelight vigil in Washington, D.C. during
Police Week, annually the second week of May.
b. Public Comment regarding a Special Election Ordinance
Councilmember Roe, at the request of Mayor Klausing, provided a brief overview
of the proposed ordinance, and rationale for bringing it forward following the re-
cent City Council vacancy due to the unfortunate passing of Councilmember
Kough; and intent to fill Council vacancies in the most democratic process avail-
able through broadening when and how a special election would be held.
Public Comment
Roger Toogood, 601 Terrace Court
Mr. Toogood expressed appreciation to Councilmember Roe for putting the ordi-
nance together for the public's response and reaction, noting the complexity and
variety of various issues to be considered. Mr. Toogood discussed state law pro-
visions and perspectives; filing period; and the need for continuity of elections
happening in the fall and longer days for sign visibility and campaigning.
