Regular City Council Meeting <br />Monday, July 21, 2008 <br />Page 14 <br />gun a year ago did not anticipate the levy limit constraints now made part of the <br />process. <br />Mayor Klausing, following the presentations, requested an electronic version be <br />provided to individual Councilmembers. <br />Each department highlighted their general budget information; total employees, <br />and percentage of budget for staffing; their operating divisions; and how their re- <br />spective department was funded; as well as 2003-08 Accomplishments; 2003-08 <br />Budget and Operational Impacts; and 2009 Strategic Plan Priorities. <br />Departments, and presenters, included: the Administrative Department presented <br />by City Manager Malinen; the Parks and Recreation Department presented by Di- <br />rector Lonnie Brokke; the Public Works Department presented by Director Duane <br />Schwartz; the Police Department presented by Captain Mathwig in the absence of <br />Chief Sletner who was at a previously scheduled out-of--state family event; the <br />Fire Department presented by Chief Rich Gasaway; the Finance Department pre- <br />sented by Director Chris Miller; and the Community Development Department <br />presented by Community Development Director Patrick Trudgeon. <br />City Manager Malinen thanked the City Council for their attention, and staff for <br />their preparations and presentations. City Manager Malinen recognized the City's <br />"very high-quality staff, providing high-quality services to the community;" al- <br />ways attempting to improve on their efficiencies and service levels, even during <br />times of limited resources and unfunded mandates. City Manager Malinen opined <br />that the City budget will remain challenging over the next few years. <br />City Manager Malinen reviewed the upcoming budget calendar in developing the <br />2009 budget, including presentation at the August 11, 2008 City Council meeting <br />of the City Manager-recommended 2009 Budget document, taking into account <br />all department requests in light of available resources and mandated levy limits; <br />with substantial time allotment at the August 18, 2008 City Council meeting for <br />City Council internal discussion of that recommended budget. <br />Mayor Klausing, following the presentations, requested an electronic version be <br />provided to individual Councilmembers. <br />14. City Manager Future Agenda Review <br />City Manager Malinen advised that advisory commission interviews would be scheduled <br />immediately prior to the regular City Council meeting on July 28, 2008, and the start time <br />would be determined by the number of applicants, with additional information forthcom- <br />ing from his office. <br />
