I spoke at
the Planning Commission as well. In addition to the points regarding the Comprehensive Plan
itself, there are additional issues that have arisen since the Planning meeting.
1. There is no reason to rush this through by the end of the year. Mr. Trudgeon requested, and
implied, that an extension be requested. He stated there is no hardship to the city by this action.
Z. There should be more time for full review of the changes made at the last meeting of the
Steering Committee as well as more changes added by the Planning Commission.
3. There are now significant and far reaching changes to the Comprehensive Plan as shown and
discussed at two public open houses. Those plans are the ones that were vetted by the public, not
those with the myriad of changes.
4. There should be no vote on this Comprehensive Plan until we have a City Council with five
elected members. It was the Council's decision to appoint a member who would not stand for
election and was therefore not accountable to the public for his or her vote. The Comprehensive
Plan, in its final version, should be reviewed by the new Council after the elections, and that
Council should hold public hearings on the final version.
Thank you,
Tam McGehee
10/13/2008
