Regular City Council Meeting <br />Monday, June 9, 2008 <br />Page 18 <br />Mr. Karges thanked Councilmembers for the special relationship and opportunity <br />to work on this project; and invited Councilmembers to visit their LEED certified <br />offices in Roseville. Mr. Karges expressed his appreciation in working with staff; <br />and the opportunity to go to Arizona State University for the best value training; <br />and assured the City of his firm's due diligence and encouraged them to contact <br />him at any time with questions or comments. <br />Mr. Harty thanked the City Council as well; and noted that the best value process <br />was a new experience for all involved; and assured Councilmembers that they <br />would make every attempt to provide the requested costs to them by mid-week for <br />the next Council meeting. <br />Mayor Klausing noted that this was a major project for the City; and expressed <br />the City's interest in working with the firms. Mayor Klausing offered to take Mr. <br />Karges up on touring their facility. <br />Mr. Brokke thanked City Attorney Squires for his work in coordinating the best <br />value process with Arizona State. <br />Mayor Klausing thanked Mr. Brokke for his work on this major project. <br />11. Public Hearings <br />a. Public Hearing for Community Input on the 2009 Budget <br />Mayor Klausing opened the Public Hearing at 8:05 p.m. <br />Public Comments <br />Tam McGehee, 77 Mid Oaks Lane <br />Ms. McGehee expressed her wishes that the City Council would seek substantial <br />contributions, similar to the Cities of Edina or Bloomington, to the retail and <br />commercial community for city services (i.e., police services). Ms. McGehee <br />noted that the majority of the City's crime was not perpetrated by Roseville citi- <br />zens, but through the clientele of those retail and commercial establishments, and <br />thus, they should compensate the City accordingly. <br />Ms. McGehee expressed similar comments related to continued expansion of <br />Northwestern College off campus, and used the example of the City of Northfield <br />and the annual contributions of Carleton and St. Olaf Colleges to compensate the <br />City for general wear and tear of their students in the community. Ms. McGehee <br />noted recent purchase by Northwestern College of three apartment buildings <br />across Snelling Avenue, the Edina Realty building, the car dealership where KTIS <br />Radio is now located; and their continued encroachment on City property and the <br />City's tax base, and the need for them to pay their fair share.
