Chair Bakeman requested staff to provide an e-mail update to Commissioners as soon as the City Council agenda was finalized, and time for the joint meeting determined. Following additional discussion, it was the consensus of Commissioners to request staff to provide a summary of Variance Board and Planning Commission activities and cases during 2007 for Council information at the joint meeting. Chair Bakeman polled commissioners, and it appeared that all would be available to attend the joint meeting with the City Council, as well as several available to attend the May 27, 2008 presentation and discussion by Ramsey Council on the Rice Street Corridor Study. ii. Request by the Public Works, Environment, and Transportation Commission (PWETC) to attend their May 27, 2008 meeting to participate in the presentation/discussion by Ramsey County on the Rice Street Corridor Study. Election of Chair and Vice Chair; and Appointments to the Variance Board Additional agenda item - Thomas P – item of business – elect a Chair and Vice Chair – do yearly elections for those serving on VB MOTION Member Boerigter moved, seconded by Member Wozniak to nominate Commissioner Bakeman as Planning Commission Chair. Ayes: 6 Nays: 0 Motion carried. MOTION Member Wozniak moved, seconded by Member Boerigter to nominate Commissioner Doherty as Planning Commission Vice-Chair. Ayes: 6 Nays: 0 Motion carried. Mr. Paschke advised that up to four (4) commissioners needed to be designated for the Variance Board, with them selecting their own Chairperson from that group. Commissioner Boerigter clarified that the Planning Commission was designating four people, with the City Council confirming that designation; based on a change in terminology several years ago. Commissioners Boerigter, Doherty volunteered to serve on the Variance Board, with Commissioner Gottfried volunteering to serve as an alternate. As Commissioner Martinson was not at the meeting, staff offered to contact her by e-mail to determine if she was interested in continuing to serve on the Variance Board as the fourth commissioner. Commissioners concurred. 5. Public Hearings a. PLANNING FILE 08-013 Request by Centennial Gardens Apartment for an Interim Use Permit to allow a temporary apartment leasing sign to be erected on the Hamline Shopping Center property, 2797 – 2833 Hamline Avenue Chair Bakeman opened the Public Hearing for Planning File 08-013.
