Truth in Taxation pgs 1-8
Regular City Council Meeting pgs 9-15
Monday, December O1, 2008
Page 14
City Manager Malinen noted that Item 12.b of the January 5, 2009 meeting was part of
the proposed biennial budget process.
Acting Mayor Ihlan sought clarification from staff, with respect to the 2009 budget, as to
when specific items or issues from individual Councilmembers should be submitted to
staff for their consideration at the December 15, 2008 meeting, in light of public com-
ments heard at tonight's Truth-in-Taxation meeting.
City Manager Malinen responded that, in light of public comments to-date, and the pre-
viously-expressed targets from individual Councilmembers, staff was currently working
on that level of adjustments based on City Council direction for three specific items as
provided at the November 24, 2008 meeting.
Councilmember Willmus opined that the City Council remained in a fluid situation, and
expressed his interest in hearing further ideas from individual Councilmembers as they go
into the final meeting of the year and adoption of the 2009 budget. Councilmember
Willmus opined that while attempting to meet goals, consideration needed to be given to
a number of things heard during public comment at tonight's Public Hearing.
Councilmember Roe opined that staff should be concentrating on the three targets previ-
ously identified by the City Council at their November 24, 2008 meeting.
Acting Mayor Ihlan suggested that, as a follow-up to those items raised tonight by the
public, that Councilmembers submit their ideas to the City Manager within the next few
days and prior to the December 15, 2008 meeting.
15. Councilmember-Initiated Items for Future Meetings
Councilmember Roe noted, as background information, that several existing Commis-
sioners' terms were expiring; and reminded the City Council that while staff was review-
ing who was or was not eligible for reappointment for all Advisory Commissions in the
near future, consideration may need to be given to addressing the vacancy on the Parks
and Recreation Commission ahead of other vacancies.
16.
