We are holding these trucks 2-3 additional years in the last 5 years
beyond the minimum 10 year schedule. We are seeing maintenance costs rise due to the
additional wear and tear although haven't had to replace transmissions at 12-15 years yet.
Plowing and salt from winter ice control is hard on the dumpboxes despite high level of
maintenance (washing) after events. The $145,000 is gross price estimate. We would expect
$20-25,000 trade value from the existing unit.
Road Grader- 1980 model year, This unit has been held many years beyond the 10 year
depreciation schedule. We have been holding based on condition and expected maintenance.
Keeping this unit longer will result in major hydraulic expense as the hoses are very
checked and cracked and needs new tires (6) at $8000 cost. Would not recommend retaining
this unit longer. We are exploring a more multi-purpose unit as a replacement unit which
we anticipate allowing us to reduce the fleet by one unit in 2010 (patch truck). The
budget is net cost as this older unit is probably worth less than $10,000.
Sidewalk machine- This is budgeted in the Prks budget. I will copy Lonnie for a response.
Duane
Duane Schwartz
Public Works Director
City of Roseville
2660 Civic Center Drive
Roseville, MN. 55113
651-792-7041
-----Original Message-----
From: Tammy Pust [mailto:Pust@parkerrosen.com]
Sent: Monday, December 15, 2008 11:42 AM
To: Chris Miller
Cc: Rich Gasaway; Bill Malinen; Carol Sletner; Duane Schwartz
Subject: RE: Some Questions re: Levy and Budget
The answers to Councilmember Ihlan's questions have raised more
questions. I'm copying Dept. heads so that whomever has the information
closest at hand can answer rather than having to have Chris get it all
from you.
I. Vehicle Replacement
1. Police vehicles (Carol) -
A. 6 marked squads at $171,775. Is this car only, not the
computers, etc.? Do we use the state centralized purchasing contract so
we get the best price on these? What kind of schedule are we keeping on
these replacements (every 5 years? 6 years?) What is the Minnesota
industry average (law enforcement in MN) for this replacement schedule,
and who compiles that?
B. 2 unmarked vehicles. What vehicles are these? When
were they last replaced? Are we using the state contract?
1
