Department Approval <br />l�'�, <br />Jy <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: 1-12-09 <br />Item No.: 12.a <br />City Manager Approval <br />� . � <br />Item Description: Community Development Department Request to Perform an Abatement <br />for Unresolved Violations of City Code at 648 Iona Lane <br />BACKGROUND <br />• The subject property is a single-family detached home. <br />• The current owners are Manzoor and Mahroof Moghul who live in the property. <br />• Original notice was sent in June of 2008. The property owner did begin repairs (reroofing) in <br />August, however, no maintenance work has occurred since that time and complaints continue to <br />be received. <br />• Current violations include: <br />Exterior building maintenance — deterioration of siding and paint (Violation of City Code <br />Section 906.05.C). <br />Exterior storage of building materials (Violation of City Code Section 407.02.M). <br />• A status update, including pictures, will be provided at the public hearing. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />The City goals within the Comprehensive Plan are to protect and improve property values (Goal 3, 4, <br />and 5; page 6 and, Section 3) and to adhere to performance standards which protect the integrity of the <br />housing units and the neighborhood (Policy 6, page 8, Section 3). <br />FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />City Abatement: <br />An abatement would encompass the following: <br />• Repair and repaint the entire exterior of the home. <br />o Approximately - $10,000.00 — 15,000.00 <br />• Removing the outside storage. <br />o Approximately - $250.00 <br />Total: Approximately - $10,250.00 — 15,250.00. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
