Department Approval <br />� ���� � <br />Item Description: <br />BACKGROUND <br />l�'�, <br />Jy <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Discussion regarding Hazardous Building Law. <br />Date: 07/20/2009 <br />Item No.: 13.c <br />City Manager Approval <br />� / <br />At the June 29, 2009 City Council, Councilmember Ihlan requested that information regarding the State <br />of Minnesota's Hazardous Suilding Law be brought forward to the City Council for discussion. Staff <br />has attached a memo regarding the law prepared by Jay Squires, City Attorney, dated April 3, 2009 and <br />has attached information from the League of Minnesota Cities regarding hazardous buildings. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />The City goals within the Comprehensive Plan are to protect and improve property values (Goal 3, 4, <br />and 5; page 6 and, Section 3) and to adhere to performance standards which protect the integrity of <br />neighborhoods (Policy 6, page 8, Section 3) . <br />FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />Under the Hazardous Suilding Law, cities would declare a building hazardous and order the building to <br />be repaired or torn down. The costs for the work are ultimately are collected from the affected property <br />owners.
