Mayor Klausing focused discussion on whether the City Council wanted to reappoint existing commissioners, as applicable. Councilmember Pust opined that existing commissioners had provided great service to the City, and while discussion continued about revisiting the exist- ing policy, the current policy indicated a two-tiered approach. 1�E Pust moved, Roe seconded, reappointmentof the following commissioners: f� Jeff Johnson, Sarah Brodt Lenz and Harold Ristow to the Parks and Recrea- t3 tion Commission; Mary Jean Turina Anderson to the Police Civil Service 1� Commission; and Joel Fischer to the Public Works, Environment and Trans- 1� portation Commission for terms expiring March 31, 2410. l� �� a� ]� �� �1 �� �� 24 �� �� 2� �� �� �� �1 �� �� �� �� �� �r �� �9 Councilmember Ihlan spoke against the motion; proposing the need for im- mediate revision to language of existing policy; and advocated for suspen- sion of the existing policy and consider reappointments with new appoint- ments. Councilmember Kough spoke against the motion, opining that new candi- dates be given equal consideration for appointment to advisory commis- sions. Councilmember Roe spoke in support of the motion, and concurred with Councilmember Pust's interpretation of current policy language. Council- member Roe opined that until that policy was changed, the City Council should follow the policy; but observed he was not against revisiting and re- considering the existing policy. Councilmember Ihlan opined that it would be impossible to change the pol- icy if incumbents continued to be reappointed before considering revising the policy. Roll Call Ayes: Roe; Pust and Klausing. Nays: Kough and Ihlan. Motion Carried.
