Thomas Paschke
March 07,2007
Redevelopment Traffic Study Memo prepared by RLK Incorporated. The coffee shop with a drive-thru
data is found in the Newsletter of the North Central Section of the Institute of Traffic Engineers (Volume
22, Nuniber 4, Fall 2005), which details a trip generation study of local coffee shops with and without a
drive-thru.
Table 1
Existing Starbucks with riThrs-
Weekda AM I Weekday PM
Enter Exit Enter Exit
F tD i t i 48 I 77
223 125
1. Per NCITE data.
Comparison of the NCITE trip generation data for a drive-thru coffee shop with the RLK Incorporated
observed counts for the existing drive-thru Starbucks indicate compatible data. The RLK. weekday AM
counts are slightly lower than the NCITE data, while the RLK weekday PM counts are somewhat higher
than the NCITE data. NCITE total daily traffic data, which should be similar for the existing drive-thru
Starbucks, indicates that the weekday average daily traffic for this land use is 1,001 vehicle trips.
Vehicle Stackin
➢ It was observed the existing drive-thru lane caa7 accommodate approximately 8 vehicles without
extending into the West Perimeter RoadlStartzcks Access intersection.
➢ During the AM peak hour, the available storage length of the drive-thru lane was exceeded
approximately 10% of the time and a maximum of 11 vehicle were observed to be stacked and
the queue extended into the West Perimeter RoadlStarbucks Access intersection.
➢ During the PM peak hour, the available storage length of the drive-thru lat7e was able to
accommodate stacked vehicles. A maximum of 6 vehicles were observed to be stacked during
the PM peak hour.
Drive-Thru Service Duration
➢ During the AM peak hour, the duration of the average drive-thru service time was approximately
3:27 with a maximum observed time of 5:11.
ftl,iC Incorparated Page 2 of 3 Project Name
G1KimcaReaityn;..r.'r's's- RT.
