Attached is a letter that our department sent to the St. Paul Pioneer Press
fol lowing phone discussions and t h e conclusion of t h e event. Also attached is an
acknowledgment letter from the Pioneer Press.
Pre-approval to place the medallion in Roseville Parks was not sought by the Pioneer Press.
Based upon the clues and the unusually hiqh traffic in the park, staff was first curious
that it might be in a Roseville Park late in the day/evening on Sunday, January 28, 2007.
First thing on Monday, January 29 we called the winter carnival committee who indicated
it was not a winter carnival committee event and referred us to the Pioneer Press. After
speaking with Carolyn Robertson at the Pioneer Press, she was noncommittal as
to whether it was in the park or not but assured us that if it was and if there were
damage as a result of this placement, the Pioneer Press would restore the damage.
can assure you that staff (Parks and Recreation Department and the Police
Department) as well as some members of the Parks and Recreation Commission patrolled
the park throughout the days and nights of the event and monitored the situation closely.
Photos were taken along the way. I t is very difficult to see the actual magnitude of
the damage with the snow cover but it is anticipated that there will be some. I t is our
intent this spring to assess the damage and together with the Pioneer Press come to a
resolution.
Thankyou and if you haveany further questions, concerns, or need clarification, please
I e t me know.

} #
