turn aroand and refiise to help or talk ta someane because they are fat, nerdy, ar
unpapiilar. I don't thirk peopie realize that they are discriminaiin; anyone. Maybe if
someoile took the chance to get to know a"nerd" he would find out they h.ve somethxng
in common.
Stereotyping, prejudice, and discriminatian aze all related to each ather. All three
of thes actions create a chain reaeian of hatred and misunderstanding. If one person
could stop stereotyping then less people would be discrzziXated and less peopie woud be
labeled with unfair names like nerd or geek. By takng a sand to make a change, oe
individual can teach tlrough positive exampe hovv to show acceptance.
I think the best way to combat these activities is ta simply stap. If sazzaeane
stopped znaking negative generalizations for oe week, and made the cansciou effort to
zeet someone who tley have always labeled, feel surprisin changes i the aia.osphere
wouid Yzappen. I tlink thafi people need to try harder to not always aci like sQmeone is
picking a figt ar being aI1 sensitive a11 the time. If peope started to just sile at
someoe ad not rudely giare. It's a lot harder to be prejudice to an individual when
you're bein nice to others or "killing thenr with kindness".
I learn a11 the time at school that it's vaxQng ta make fun of people because of their
raee, Iooks, or how hey talk. Even in the newspaper they have articles about haw
sozneore was kiiled because they rVOre the calor blue and that's a gag color in the
neighbprhood. If the people tha killed others would use te negative enery to serve
hwa.an kind then our world would be a muc safer and ore beautfil place. It would be
a place where would not look out any for our awn need but rather the needs of all.
The Flniversal Declaration of Human Rights ereated by t1a.e United Nations, says
"Wiereas disregard and cantempt for hutnan rights have resulied in barbaraus acts wich
have outraged the conscince of ankind, and the advent of a wrld in uvhic human
beings shall enjay freedom of speech arzd belief and freedom frozn fear and want has been
proclaimed as fihe highest aspiration oithe common peoale...". I think about Rosa 'arks
who was jusi a tired black womari wha just wanted to home on the bus after a long day.
Th'rs one woman's tiny voice that refised to give up ex sat for one white mazi, ehazged
Aerica forevr. She wanted freedom and to ke equaL Her race and sex should have not
ade a difference. Her oe voic was the beginaing of America's civil rights movement.
She recently passed away and her cantribution to te Civil Rights is being honored at the
White House in Washington D.C. If it only taak on voice to siart 1ie Ciil Rights
movemet, then only oze voice should be able to begin ta end prejuczce, sterentyping,
and discrimination. Anybody ean be thai voice.
The Un4ted Naians just celebrated their 60t' birthday. Zt stards for peace in a
universal ianguage. Yts goal is to unify the human race and #o tear down the
znisconceptions and mistrust at hae been developed over centuries. It serves as a
remindr that we, as the human race,' are all created equal and we are all one family.
