Thursday, March 23, 2006 <br />City Council, <br />If you want us to review our permit fees for driveways, we will <br />certainly do that. <br />In the meantime, just a few quick observations about Mr. <br />Goodmanson's letter: <br />L We try to set fees to recover costs. That way, taxpayers don't <br />subsidize these costs. <br />2. Without studying the issue further, we don't know if the <br />driveway permit fees charged in these other cities cover their <br />costs. (Sometimes, cities don't update their fees to keep up <br />with inflation in costs.) <br />3. Without studying the issue further, we don't know if there are <br />examples of other cities that charge the same or more than <br />Roseville for driveway permits. <br />4. The cities which don't require a driveway permit and, hence, <br />don't charge any fee are also not inspecting driveway <br />installations. We could do that too, but it may create another <br />set of complaints for you to handle when driveways are not <br />installed in the right place or they are too wide. <br />Neal <br />
