The
Department requested $1800 to cover the cost of equipment and training for a contingent of up to
20 volunteers to form a CERT unit. In March of 2006, the Roseville Community Fund graciously
donated $1800 in funding to the police department to promote this valuable program.
Community Emergency Response Teams (CER are community based volunteer organizations,
designed to help prepare for effective disaster response through training and planning. CERT
teams are organized and trained in accordance with standard operating procedures developed by
the City's emergency management team as a charter federal partner of the National Citizen
Corps Council.
The CERT program can provide an effective first response capability directly in the
neighborhoods where team members live. Acting as individuals first, then later as members of
teams, trained CERT volunteers respond to emergency events impacting their neighborhood.
CERT team members are also trained volunteer groups that may be utilized as a volunteer work
force to service organizations, emergency shelter support, crowd control and evacuation events.
PROPOSED ACTION
Allow the police department to accept the funds donated by the Roseville Community Fund. The
Department plans to utilize these monies to cover training costs and purchase equipment.
Volunteers are currently being recruited and training is scheduled to begin April 7, 2006; the
planned training completion date is June 12, 2006.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
Not applicable.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Allow the police department to accept the funds donated by the Roseville Community Fund
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
Request Council approval to accept the donation from the Roseville Community Fund.
