4r
r
Council Memo
To: City Council
From: Neal Beets r+
Date: Thursday, Apri113,2006
Re: Agenda item S.a.
Pm not sure what information the sponsor of this agenda item may have, but
here are two pieces information that may be relevant for Council's
consideration.
l. You will remember that at your February 27,2006 Council Meeting, the
staff and city attorney recommended the Council codify Council
Resolution 6946. That Resolution (adopted in 1980) delegates certain
decisions about street signs to a Traffic Safety Committee consisting of the
Police Chief, the City Manager, and the Public Works Director. On
February 27,2006, the Council approved a motion sending this issue to the
Public Works, Environment, and Transportation Commission for study
and a recommendation. On March 28,2006 PWET recommended that the
Council codify Council Resolution 6946. PWET did not recommend
changing the composition or role of the Traffic Safety Committee.
Thus, Staff anticipates putting this ordinance on your Apri124 agenda
for enactment.
2. No staff inember in Public Works, Community Development, or the Police
Department have been contacted about this parking situation at Lexington
and Laurie Road. ff it is Council's wish for staff to check into this, we will
do so. That is what we would do in the normal course of events. Because
this item was placed on a Council agenda for policy discussion, and not
sent to staff for action, we have not attempted to contact these residents.
