Former Commissioner Pust
took the lead on behalf of the Commission and assembled a draft ordinance that included
a number of the itemslcharacterities that the Commission supported. This draft became
the framework (starting point) for public hearings and Commissian
discussion/odi'icatian.
Examples ofthe new document and the illustrations will be shown at the meeting.
Since the initial public hearing in December 2005, the draft ordinance has seen a number
of iterations, with the focus on clarity and creativity. Specific areas of focus have
included the definitions section, where numerous changes have been proposed. These
include text modifications to clear-up existing ambiguity and the insertion of diagrams to
assist individuals understanding the different types of signs. Members Bakman and
Boerigter have been instrumental in assisting the City Planner with the revisions
necessary to address the direction suggested by the Commission.
The Commission has also focused on creative signage through a master sign plan and
creating a understandable chart that provides individuals with the specifics of what type
of signage is allowed, where it can be placed, how large can it be, and what is the
maximum height.
2.0.
