REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION <br />L�p�i�mr.ni .��r rc�ti�:�L: ��ia�ya��r ��pprov�l: <br />n r�� �� 1�� <br />DATE: OS/08/06 <br />ITEM NO: 3.e <br />�i�elida� ��c:kiail, <br />�'�T��F.�1T <br />Item Description: Request to allow the Roseville Planning Commission to complete <br />background study #4 of Roseville Comprehensive Planning with John <br />Sl�ardlavv (PF3692). <br />1.0 REQUESTED ACTION: <br />The Roseville Planning Commission has been setting the stage for the mandatory 2007-2008 <br />Comprehensive Plan changes by doing preparatory work with the City's consulting planner, John <br />Shardlow. The Council is asked to approve the next {#4, July Sth) presentation in the series. The <br />cost of this educational series is being borne by the Community Development professional <br />services approved 2006 budget and by DSU as a contribution to the local planning effort. (These <br />presentations are always public and are on cable, on tape, and CD disc of the Power Point, as <br />well as in paper hand out format.) <br />2.0 BACKGROUND: <br />The staff asked Mr. Shardlow and DSU in the spring of 2005 to provide an introduction to Roseville <br />Planning — Past, Present and Future. Since his firm, DSU, has spent over 30 years working with <br />Roseville, Mr. Shardlow agreed to do background research and presentation work as well as spend <br />an evening with the Commission on topics which would inform the Commission and the public on <br />the role of planning in the city. Members of the Council questioned the expenditure, content, and <br />asked to be informed (and approve) of future requests and presentations. <br />2.1 Workshop Number One (Au�usi 3,20051 <br />The first workshop focused on the origins and growth of the City of Roseville. DSU documentedthe <br />physical growth of the city fro�n its early years as Rose Township and followed Roseville's <br />development through the decades. This was done with maps, photographs and documents. <br />2.2 Workshop Number Two (October 10,20051 <br />The second workshop looked at the growth and development of the broader northeast suburban area <br />and the Twin Cities MetropolitanArea during the saine time periods as Workshop Number One. The <br />purpose was to understandwhat was going on around Roseville during its growth and development <br />and to understand the interconnectedness of the community with its surroundings and the broader <br />market place. <br />2.3 Workshop Number Three (Aqril 5, 200G) <br />Workshop number three looks at Roseville and the surroundingcommunities today, utilizing all of <br />the �T�� maps and resources that the city has developed, as well as the demographic researchthat has <br />previously been completed by John Carpenter.
