Concrete and asphalt demolition material can be recycled by crushing the
removed materials and utilizing the recycled material as a quality road base. Recycling is an
environmentally sound construction practice. It allows for the reduction of demand for new aggregate, re-
use of valuable materials, reduces wastestream to ladfills and reduces hauling on-off site. If concrete
and asphalt demolition materialswere hauled off-site, approximately4,300 ruok trips would be generated
to and from the site via Cleveland Avenue, County Road C, and County Road C-2.
Redevelopment Sta.in. Redevelopment of the site will begin with the demolition of the existing
buildings, grading, and remediation. Buildingdemolitionwill begin in May and June 2006 and continue
throughout the summer. As demolished concrete and asphalt are collected, they will b e hauled from the
building demolitionsite to the stockpile in the crushing staging area. Crushing of the stockpiled material
will commence upon completion of the anticipated 2006 building demolition lat fall 2006 and winter
2007. Crushing activities are anticipatedto last approximately five weel.s and should be completed by
February 10,2007.
Hours of Operaton: This type of crushing operation typically involves a minimum 12-hour worlcday. If
requested by the City, crushing operations could be restricted to Monday through T'riday, between 7:00
a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with no weelcend crushing activity. Late falllwinter crushing activity is preferred, as it
is easier to achieve quality standards by crushing cold concrete and asphalt. In addition, noise impacts arc
reduced in the colder months, as windows are typically closed. Late falllrvinter crushing will require
lighting the recycle plant and staging area. For this site, crushing contractors hae indicated a preference
of implementing one crushing cycle. We estimate five weel.s of crushing activity is needed to crush the
estimated 60,000 tons ofstockpiledrecycle material.
3065 CENTRE POiNTE DRIVE
R05EVILLE MN 55113
t I tiS I 63b.Cd5C =.ax: n5 i ee.cr EQUAL HOUSING
14Y 4_I}r DYi f2 1 SE U 7 k OPPORTUNITY
