,xa for Citizen Advisory a
Civic and Volunteer Activities
Roseville Citizens League
Crescent City Lion's Club (io,
Board Chair
Member
Member
2005 to Present
2003 to Present
I9J to 1991
Reasons for wanting to serve on the If` ' .s Commission
The Public Works, Environment and TransportationAdvisory Committee reviews and discusses
very important services to our community. Water service, sewer service, electrical service, air
quality, soil contamination, road projects, snow removal, and pedestrian and bicycle pathways
are regularly on the agenda for the P/E/T Commission meetings. i would like to serve on the
commission because the over-sight of these services affects the day-to-day life of all Roseville
citizens, including me. ore importantly, I believe that ei'fecive oversight by citizens improves
the quality of the services provided by municipal government and prevents wastefil spending. I
believe that the responsibilities of inembership on the /fT commission are not particuiarly
difficult because the leadership and staff of the Roseville public works department do an
excellent job of planning, scheduling, and presenting materials to the commission. Many of the
reasonable, modest, responsible citizens could provide effective over-sight ofthese activities.
The only "special" qualifications that can bring to this commission are a sincere interest in
citizen oversight, an extensive public education, and over forty years of experience living in
Roseville and the surrounding communities.
g view of the of the `f' ti,r Advisory Commission
Citizen Advisory Commissions have a responsibilityto review the programs that provide
services to the citizens and to comment on reasonable itrprovezents in the quality of service,
extent of service, and cost of service to the community. All advisory commissioners should be
receptive to comments from Roseville residents. Commisiorers must be able to be effective
advocates for all Roseville residents and (if necessary) insist that the appropriate department
vaz.in our city government respond to legitimate requests for services.
The advisory commission meetings should be interesting and informative, but not entertaining.
Corrr.issioners may disagree, but there should not be verbal or figurative frevaorl. The
ccssio. should conduct its' business in an even-tempered fashion.
Citizen input should be encouraged, welcomed, and respected. Discussion and deliberation
should seek iarnatin and clarity, rather than self-promotion or denigration of others.
Generally, I think the PW/E/T commission is close to achieving these ideals. I'd like to
participate in the continuous improvement of our municipal government for at least a few years.
Page 4
