The Public Works, Environment and Transportation Advisory Committee reviews and discusses
very important ,;e ice; to our ccr:u:azty. Y',ater service, sewer service, eitrica service,
quality, soil contamination, road projects, snow removal, and pedestrian and bicycle pathways
are regtzr:y on the agenda for the `,,,'L,' Commission meetings. Ir;,uiu like to se °w on the
commission because the over-sight of these services affects the day-to-day life of all Roseville
citizens, irciudirg me. :-e importantly, l believe that effective oversight by citizens improves
the quality of the services provided by municipal government and prevents wasteful spending. I
beiieve that the responsibilities of iner5.rs: on the'T ;:rT co.nzssian are not particul
difficult because the leadership and staff of the Roseville public works department do an
eellent job of ,ur:.i:.g, scheduling, and presenting tials to the c;,uisszoz. Many of the
reasonable, modest, responsible citizens could provide effective over-sight of these activities.
':17 cruy "special" qualifications that I can bring to this i , 5; n are a sincere interest in
citizen oversight, an extensive public education, and over forty years of experience living in
Citizen Advisory Commissions have a responsibilityto review the programs that provide
services to the citizens and to comnt on reasonable improvements in the quality of service,
extent of service, and cost of service to the community. All advisory commissioners should be
receptive to comments from csevilf residents. Commissioners Fµst be abe to be effective
advocates for all Roseville residents and (if necessary) insist that the appropriate department
witi our cit g ere respond to Legitimate requests for se vice.
The advisory commission meetings should be interesting and informative, but not entertaining
Commissioners may disagree, but there siiwi: not be Ywral or irativu fireworks. fhe
czsssc si;,iil d conduct its' business in an even-tempered fashion.
Citizen input should be encouraged, welcomed, and respected. Discussion and deliberation
sicud seek infar^i; and clarity, rather than self-promotion or uWr,rti:.n of others.
Generally, I think the PWIEIT commission is close to achieving these ideals. I'd like to
participate in the c tt :uou improvement ;,f our unici,u g;,vr . tir.t for at ieast a few years.
