He asked that the City proactivelyremove geese. He referenced a Pioneer Press article about the City of Wc�csdbury trappinggeese and donating them to local food shelves. He recommended that the City of Roseville does the same. Roseville most often receives complaints about geese congregating at Langton Lake, Central Park and Cedarholm Golf Course in addition to some private areas. W�adbury worked with Professor Jim Cooper and "The Canada Goose Program."The program was developed through the UniversityofMinnesota and the Department ofNatural Resources. Under the program, they get appropriate permits and trap geese in identified areas. They generallyhave six weeks from early-June to mid-July when adults lose feathers that allow them to fly and before the goslings can fly. At other times of the year it is cost prohibitive to try to trap geese. Pro£ Cooper reported this is generally the timeframe that most Cities get complaints. The Parks and RecreationDepartment also noted higher complaints when geese are migrating. Not everyone agrees that geese should be removed, and there are other ways to remove geese. The City included information about ways to keep geese off a person's property in the May/June 2006 Roseville City News (attached). The City has used the Canada Goose Program in the past at Central Park, Langton Lake and the Golf Course. Geese were relocated, not donated to a food shelf. Financial Imvact The goose removal program costs $1,000 per site, plus an additional per goose or gosling fee. Pro£ Cooper said Roseville would be a good place to try removing geese eggs in the spring because there are only a few known nesting areas.
