REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Approval <br />Itern Description <br />BACKGROUND <br />Manager Approval <br />Date: July 24,2006 <br />ftett� No.: j � <br />Agenda Section: <br />Consent <br />Approval to Accept 2007 Safe & Sober Grant Funding <br />The Ramsey County Sheriffs Office (RCSO), along with the New Brighton, Moundsview, St. Anthony, White <br />Bear Lake, Maplewood and Roseville Police Departments submitted an application to the Minnesota <br />Department of Public Safety to receive funds for the 2007 Safe & Sober grant program. The Minnesota Office of <br />Traffic Safety has accepted the application and awarded the above agencies $90,000. The Roseville Police <br />Department's share of the grant funds will be $16,000. <br />Roseville's Sergeant Rick Wahtera will be coordinating the grant activities for Roseville. Rick has extensive <br />experience with coordinating efforts for Operation Nite Cap, scheduling traffic control details through the State <br />Patrol, commercial vehicle inspections, and also is the Department's representative for AVCAM (a state-wide <br />auto theft prevention organization). <br />The funds awarded to the Roseville Police Department will cover officer overtime and squad mileage <br />reimbursement. <br />PROPOSED ACTION <br />Upon approval from the Council to accept the City's portion of the grant funds, Sergeant Wahtera will coordinate <br />scheduling and tracking methods to ensure adequate patrol coverage for all waves of the Safe & Sober <br />Campaign. <br />FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS <br />None.
