REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Department Approval Itern Description BACKGROUND Manager Approval Date: July 24,2006 ftett� No.: j � Agenda Section: Consent Approval to Accept 2007 Safe & Sober Grant Funding The Ramsey County Sheriffs Office (RCSO), along with the New Brighton, Moundsview, St. Anthony, White Bear Lake, Maplewood and Roseville Police Departments submitted an application to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety to receive funds for the 2007 Safe & Sober grant program. The Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety has accepted the application and awarded the above agencies $90,000. The Roseville Police Department's share of the grant funds will be $16,000. Roseville's Sergeant Rick Wahtera will be coordinating the grant activities for Roseville. Rick has extensive experience with coordinating efforts for Operation Nite Cap, scheduling traffic control details through the State Patrol, commercial vehicle inspections, and also is the Department's representative for AVCAM (a state-wide auto theft prevention organization). The funds awarded to the Roseville Police Department will cover officer overtime and squad mileage reimbursement. PROPOSED ACTION Upon approval from the Council to accept the City's portion of the grant funds, Sergeant Wahtera will coordinate scheduling and tracking methods to ensure adequate patrol coverage for all waves of the Safe & Sober Campaign. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS None. There is no city match requirement for this funding.
