Discuss goals and potential action <br />What do you see that's wc�rking well and what do you <br />see that's Iacking? <br />Councilmember Ihlan opined that she would lilce to see <br />Parlcs and Recreation, and preservation of open space move <br />much higher in the City Council's priorities as it <br />represented such a substantial part of the community's <br />quality of life, and encompassed recreation, sports, fitness, <br />wellness, pedestrian and bilce trails, and other alternative <br />transportation methods and noted that open space <br />encouraged wildlife habitat preservation. Councilmember <br />Ihlan further opined that her vision would not include <br />funding it with sales tax, as that would have too great an <br />impact on the City's business community and would only <br />serve to encourage more retail in the City, while malcing <br />less green space. Councilmember Ihlan further opined that <br />she would lil�e to see more equity of parlc space throughout <br />the community, noting the lack of equity on the west side <br />of the community, and encouraged making the entire City <br />green. <br />Chair Jacobson encouraged recommendations from <br />CouncilmemberIhlan on how to attain her goals. <br />Councilmember Ihlan responded that it would be <br />determined by the overall City Council priorities and their <br />allotment of resources to changing priorities, less monies <br />toward development subsidies, and careful use of sales tax, <br />if pursued, and the implications. <br />Councilmember T�ough opined that open space was very <br />important and an expectation of the citizens and spoke in <br />
