City Council Regular Meeting — 07I10106 <br />Draft Minutes ' Page 10 <br />and that they'd already moved a portion of their corporate <br />office from the facility and when the building became <br />vacant, it was the School District's intent to demolish the <br />building, as it had reached the end of its useful life. Ms. <br />Latirn�r brought the subject up as a possible solution for <br />more space in the community for future consideration. Ms. <br />Latimer noted that the Fairv�ew facility was in much better <br />shape, and a committee was currently looking at its future <br />and the School District was making plans to divest itself of <br />that facility due to increasing maintenance costs. <br />Extensive discussion regarding the status and future of the <br />Owasso and Fairv��w facilities ensued and included, <br />community concerns regarding ongoing use of the Fairvi�w <br />facility and current programming; involvement of <br />surrounding communities in use of the Fairview facility; <br />the substantial green space at both facilities; senior <br />programming; maxing out of certain types of ball fields; <br />funding sources and whether or not a community center <br />needed to "break even;" and potential land acquisition <br />costs. <br />2.e Community Center concept: What is our role? Does it <br />make sense to enlist input and support from <br />surrounding communities? If so, how do we best go <br />about it? How do we best identify the type of facility <br />that suits the needs of our residents and surrounding <br />communities? Does the community center have to <br />break even? How do you see a community center being <br />maintained? <br />Chair Johnson sought input from the City Council as to <br />their tasking of the Parks and Recreation Commission in <br />the community center dialogue and analysis. <br />Mayor Klausing spoke enthusiastically of his support for a <br />community center and the community support evidenced <br />but recognized the numerous challenges. Mayor Klausing <br />was unable to personally define his charge for the <br />Commission's role in thecommunity center discussion, but <br />noted that the City Council had yet to determine their own <br />role.
