City Council Regular Meeting— 08/14/06 <br />DRAFT Minutes ' Page 4 <br />discussion was ongoing and dependent on the outcome of the <br />proposed rental licensing ordinance; education pieces; and <br />addressing issues (�.e., parking, number of occupants based on <br />square footage; etc.). <br />Councilmember Pust suggested that the HRC take their meetings <br />outside of City Hall to the community and where minority <br />concentrations were apparent; and opined that the HRC were the <br />City Council's emissaries in the community. <br />Commissioner McGehee suggested development of an <br />information packet for new residents that provided government <br />information (i.e., how to become involved in the community; city <br />government structure; how to obtain the free government access <br />cable programming; the process for serving on an advisory <br />commission; and ordinances that affect day-to-day life). <br />Commissioner McGehee also suggested city support for block <br />parties and other neighborhood efforts to get people aware of <br />their neighbors. <br />Councilmember Pust noted that packets were already available, <br />but perhaps needed to be updated; and suggested the HRC work <br />with staff in updating the information packets. <br />Commissioner McGehee addressed the community image <br />projected {i.e., Police Department); complaints she'd personally <br />fielded related to the City's squad cars going too fast in <br />residential areas, making them dangerous. Commissioner <br />McGehee questioned if the community was receiving adequate <br />response from the City related to those public safety concerns. <br />Commissioner McGehee also addressed Police Department use <br />of tasers on community youth and whether the Council needed to <br />have policies in place related to their use. Commissioner <br />McGehee further addressed underage drinking, safety and family <br />issues in the community; median age and experience level of the <br />City's Police Department; and lack of consistent residential <br />neighborhood patrols to increase community dialogue with local <br />law enforcement officers. <br />Discussion included the lack of diversity of the City's Police <br />
