<br />around the island (Figure2 27a}.One option for e�editing turning movements is
<br />to make the street pavement wider at the rear of the center island (Figure � 27b�.
<br />The use of �= or Y-shaped turnarounds requires all vehicles to make a back-
<br />€ng�up movement. This inconvenience can be justified if traffic volume on the
<br />turnaround is particularly low, as on a dead-end street serving ten or fewer
<br />homes with dnveways. T- or Y shapec� turnarounds offer several advantages:
