Discussion continued regarding evaluation firms and scope of services; logistics for testing out-of-state candidates in a cost- effective manner; expertise of individual firms and prior experience of Councilmembers, staff and the City Attorney and their recommendations; use of additional assessments and evaluations in the decision-makingprocess. Councilmember Ihlan opined her support for holding off on more testing until the initial round of interviews had been held and Council discussion regarding consensus on final candidates at that time. Councilmember Pust opined her support for testing of the final two candidates for a more streamlinedprocess. Councilmember Maschka opined his support for testing following identification of 2-3 candidates following initial interviews. Mayor Klausing reminded Councilmembers that there may be additional costs for an out-of-state candidate who made the final list, and requiring returning for testing by a local firm. Councilmember Ihlan questioned at what point references would be checked; and opined her support for checking references in conjunction with the interview process. Councilmember Ihlan further opined her support for reference comments as part of the interview process as a review of their present relationships; and only testing finalists in the most limited scope possible. Discussion ensued regarding protecting the identity of the candidate pool in relationship to their current employer, and the difficulties with modern technology and media sources and information. Mayor Klausing sought to clarify Council consensus for direction to staff that interviews would be scheduled with the six finalists;
