In total, for 2007 this same home will pay $525 per year in City property taxes, or $43.77 per
month. This monthly charge is comparable to what a typical homeowner pays independently for
gas, electric, telephone, cable tv, or broadband internet. For $43.77 per month, residents receive
round-the-clock police and fire protection, well maintained streets and pathways, and a full
offering of parks and recreation facilities. 90 cents of every City tax dollar goes directly towards
these services. The remaining portion is needed for legal, elections, accounting, and general
administrative costs.
Should the Council determine that this tax impact is too high, and reduce the levy increase to
4.0% (from the current 5.0%) it would save the typical homeowner $0.48 cents per month.
Tax Benchmarks
For comparison purposes, the following chart depicts local property taxes for similar sized cities
within the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area.
2006 Local Property Taxes
Brooll Center $ 9 3 9
Richfield 785
Cotta e Grove 757
St. Louis Park 727
Inver Grove Hei hts 725
Ma lewood 642
pakdaie 640
Fridle 640
Andaver 634
Shako ee 619
Shoreview 479
Rosevilie 464
* Far cities within the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area, serving
Populations between 25,000 — 45,000; and far a home valued at $200,000
As shown in the table, Roseville has the lowest property tax burden amongst cities within the
metro area that serve a population between 25,000 and 45,000.
