Date: O1/10/04 <br />It�n: 5.d <br />PY���� <br />Matti� L�,r�r King Jr. Day <br />Roseville Proclamation <br />Martin Luther King Jr. Day <br />January 17,2005 <br />Whereas: The City of Roseville is committed to recognizing and honoring the work of Dr. <br />Martin Luther King Jr.; and <br />Whereas: The Roseville Human Rights Commission, through education and outreach, <br />recognizes great leaders who have made significant contributions to our society; and <br />Whereas: Martin Luther King Jr. fearlessly spoke out against bigotry and racism; and <br />Whereas: Martin Luther King Jr. was jailed and arrested numerous times for speaking out <br />against racism and discrimination and for trying to help African Americans to register and vote; <br />and <br />Whereas: Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in December 1964; <br />and <br />Whereas: Martin Luther King Jr. lost his life on Apri14, 1968 because of his fight for <br />equality and civil rights for all; and <br />Whereas: By Act of Congress of the United States in 1983, declared the third Monday in <br />January to officially honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; and <br />Whereas: <br />Whereas: <br />and justice. <br />The City declares racism unjust and advocates equal rights for all; and <br />The City invites everyone to renew their commitment to ensuring racial equality <br />Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, that the City Council hereby declare January 17,2005, to be <br />Martin Luther King Day in the City of Roseville and urges all citizens to join together to <br />recognize, praise and honor the efforts of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. <br />In the City of Roseville, County of Ramsey, State of Minnesota, U.S.A <br />In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Roseville <br />to be affixed this l Oth day of January 2005. <br />h+i�}'Ur �`r�i� L�.
