Department Approval Item Description Backmound � Request for Council Action Manager Approval Designate 2005 Legal Newspaper Date: January 10,2004 Item Number: 3.d Agenda Section Minnesota statutes require cities to annually designate a legal newspaper for publication of ordinances and other notices. Cities are not required to seek bids each year, so staff requested quotes from the newspapers for 2005 and 2006. Although the City may not designate a newspaper for more than one calendar year, requesting the information for two years reduces staff work and allows the City to project costs in the following year. The City requested information from the Pioneer Press, Roseville Review, Star Tribune and the Sun Focus. The Star Tribune did not respond. In 2004 the City spent approximately $1,600 in Legal Notices. Based on this number, the City would spend approximately $1,600 with the Roseville Review; $2,176 with the Sun Focus; and $3,728 with the Pioneer Press in 2005. Council Action Requested Motion designating the lowest bidder, the Roseville Review, as the legal newspaper for the City of Roseville for 2005.
