REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Approval: <br />I2P�V <br />Manager Approved: <br />DATE: Ol/31/05 <br />ITEM NO: 7. <br />Agenda Section <br />Item Description: A request by Super 8 Hote12401 Prior Avenue to Re-side the existing <br />building with a material not listed in City Design Standards Section <br />1010.02 (PF3622) Parcel No: 092923320002 <br />].� <br />�,U <br />REQUESTED ACTION <br />Super 8 Hotel requests City Council approval to re-side the existing Hotel by <br />stripping off the exterior timber and wood finishes and applying a commercial <br />grade high quality vinyl lap siding to the building in areas not covered with brick or <br />glass. <br />STAFF FINDINGS & CONDITIONS <br />The building exterior is in need of repair. See the attached photos. Vinyl siding has been <br />used in prior additions to the Hotel (including the pool and lobby) before the commercial <br />design standards were added to the Code in 1991. Section 1010.02 specifically lists <br />approved materials that staff can issue permits for within commercial development areas. <br />Vinyl siding is not listed. Therefore, under City Code Section 1010.02G, the City Council <br />is asked to make the decision as to whether the material is appropriate. <br />'The site is zoned "B-1 B" Limited Retail District; the comprehensiveplan designates the <br />site for "B" business. <br />.�.�� STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval since portions of the building are already sided in vinyl.
