reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood {this
didn't seem like a brotherhood to me} . I just blew them off and played with the kids that I
always played with not caring about the color of their skin.
It is clear to me now that I have experienced discrimination as I was excluded from
groups of kids because of my friends of color. WAIT! Doesn't it say in Article 2 in the
Universal Declaration of Human Right Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms
set forth...without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, ... opinion. Wasn't
discriminated against because of my opinion and wasn't there distinction with race and
color? How many rights are we violating here?
To my surprise it was a both black kids and white kids who started calling me Oreo
Boy. It seems to me that discrimination comes fro nothing but ignorance from people
who dislike change or something new to them. I feel I have experienced discrimination
because I was excluded from my age group, as it states in Article 5 in the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, "No one shall be subj ected to torture or to cruel, inhuman
or degrading treatment or punishment." I experienced being excluded to be inhuman and
degrading.
I have intervened in discriminationby not responding or giving in to peer pressure and
by just playing with whomever without thinking of their color. In case you think that this
never happens ask your kid what color the kids are that they mostly play with. If they are
Christian ask them how many Muslim friends do you have.
