DATE: Apri14,2005 <br />TO: Mayor, City Council <br />FROM: Public Works, Environmental and Transportation Commission <br />(Doug Wilke, Chair) <br />RE: Proposed Transit Reductions <br />At the March i{�'�' meeting of the Public Works, Environmental and Transportation Commission, <br />information from Metro Transit related to their proposed plans for route reductions and <br />eliminations was discussed. The Commission was unanimous in opposing these reductions <br />without having additional information regarding ridership, cost, and impact to il �Y citizens and <br />businesses in our area. The Commission feels the proposed plan cuts the transit options for most <br />area residents. This would happen at a time when many residents are seeking additional options <br />because of rising gasoline prices, and at a time when additional senior buildings are being <br />constructed or proposed, which would add potential transit users to our community. <br />The Commission supports Council action that would oppose these reductions to all levels of <br />government and to support additional funding for bus transit. <br />
