Routinely removing the end hells from the chiller and cleaning <br />the tubes is not necessary far this application. There are chiller vessels designed to "self-clean" <br />themselves. This involves little brushes in each tube that are pulled througl� the tube when the <br />chiller is back flushed. However, this option is generally found on systems that pass inore solids <br />through the chiller tubes such as food processing facilities or facilities that use open loop cooling <br />systems where algae is a concern. <br />Monitoring o f the glycol ar brine once or twice a year is sufficient. However, since the system is <br />shut down far 8 months out of the year mare frequent testing is recommended. If calcium <br />chloride is used, a coupon rack can bc used for easy testing of the pH and specific gravity of the <br />fluid. These tests determine if cortrosio�a inhibitars in the fluid are at adequate levels and if the <br />strength of the fluid is high enough to prevent freezing. <br />If glycol is used a free test kit can he obtained through DOW Chemicals annually. The testing <br />periar�ned through this program determines inhibitar strength (both copper and iron), chlarides, <br />sulfates, propylene a3�d triethylene glycol, nitrates, sediment, MBT, copper corrosion rate, ferris <br />metals, pH, reserve alkalinity, percentage of glycol, freezing point, clarity, color, appearance and <br />corrosion.
