REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 05/23/05 <br />ITEM NO: 3.e <br />��p���trn�nt,4p�r�r��: f��r����r R�v��w��i; Agen�� Se�tion: <br />`�'� � ��`ti� �.; �.�'�.�� �. nn �ent <br />Item Description: Acceptance of Metropolitan Regional Arts Council Grant for the 2005 <br />Summer EntertainmentSeries. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Roseville residents and community guests have enjoyed performances at the Central Park <br />Amphitheatre for many years. In 2005, Roseville Parks and Recreation, under the guidance of <br />the Parks and Recreation Commission, will provide a kaleidoscopeof entertainment highlighting <br />amazing arts for your eyes, live music from around the world for your ears and captivating <br />experiences for your mind. Artists share their talents with the community three evenings each <br />week, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, late May through August. Funding for Roseville's <br />summer performance series is supported by sponsorships, donations and grants. <br />The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council offers a community arts grant program to stimulate and <br />encourage the creation, performance and appreciation of the arts in the seven county <br />metropolitan area of Minnesota. <br />The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council has awarded the City of Roseville a community arts <br />grant for $3,000 to assist in funding the summer performance series in the Central Park <br />Amphitheatre. The grant application is attached. <br />POLICYOBJECTIVE <br />The attached proposal is consistent with the policy of leveraging other public and private <br />resources to obtain funding that offsets the cost of providing programs, services and facilities for <br />Roseville residents. It is also consistentwith our efforts to partnerwith other agencies. <br />FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS <br />The City must provide matching funds of $3,000. Staff has identified available support for the <br />City's matchingfunds inthe 2005 budget. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Based upon the Parks and Recreation System Plan consistent with providing community <br />activities staff recommends that the City accept a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts <br />Council for $3,000 to assist in the offering of a summer concert series in Roseville Central Park <br />Amphitheatre. <br />COUNCILACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion authorizing the acceptance of a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council for <br />$3,000 to assist in the offering of a summer Performance series in Roseville Central Park <br />Amphitheatre with matching funds of $3,000 to be taken from the 2005 Summer Entertainment <br />Budget. <br />
