- DRAFrfor Roseville City Council--
-1s Reading, June 13,2005
6. Mothballing andlar Removing the Oval:
• Mothballing saves up to $50,000 in operating costs, leaving $50,000 of the $100,000 operating
deficit
* Demolitionwill incur a one-time cost of $250,00(
• Observation: Closing of the Oval would reduce the critical mass of recreation activities
available at the center, to a point where all the other income streams would probably also be
affected. At the very least, it would highly impact the ability of the overall Skating Center to
attract youth and teens for recreational activities. As a result, there could be unforeseen impacts
on other areas, as the young people spread out over the city in search of activities to occupy
their time.
 Observation: Conservative hard dollar projection would close more of the operating deficit
than the mothballing approach, while providing public good of retaining the facility.
See Attachment 5, "Memo re: Supplemental Financial Info" for more detail
Oval Task Force Final Report Page 28 of 29
