What do participants value about their neighborhoods? (Source:feedbacksheets)
• The following characteristics were mentioned inost often:
o Neighbars and "neighborliness" (communications and involvement) (18times)
o Convenient location (16 times)
o Quiet and Safety (15 times)
o Parks, Open Space, and Pathways (8 times)
Other qualities that were mentioned three or five times include:
o Roseville government and services (5 times)
o Housing maintenance (4 times)
o Schools (3 times)
o Diversity (3 fimes)
o Setting (lake, homes, etc.) (3 times)
What were the housing-related issues that emerged from the Dialogue? (Source: Small group
discussion reports)
■ Housing Market Activity and Neighborhood Change
o There seeirs to be mare turnover (sales)in housing than usual.
o Increasing number of owner-occupied, single-family houses is being sold for
rental properties—newhouseholds are always families.
o Increase in speculation in housing market—neighbors observe that speculatars
are "flipping" houses in the neighborhood.
o It seem that a lot single-family homes are being bought and converted into
group homes. Group home operations generate a different type of activity, noise
levels, traffic, etc. than single-family homes.
Housing Maintenance and Upgrades
o Housing stock is aging and programs are needed to help senior maintain these
older homes.
o New or first-time homeowners seem to lack knowledge of how to care far
homes — maintenance is an issue.
o Met Council rental properties have created many issues with regard to
maintenance and negative social behaviar.
• Regulatory I'olicies/City Codes
o Mare regulation of rental housing is needed to address a variety of issues, suct
as maintenance, negative social behaviar, increased conflict among neighbars,
and it seems like support services are needed.
o Rehabremodel project designs do not always fit in with design character of the
neighbarhood, often garages and additions are out of scale with the rest of tlle
neighborhood.
o More regulation of group home activify/operations is needed.
• Planning, Regulation, and Communications
o Higher density housing should be controlled to avoid concentrations within
neighborhoods.
o Higher density housing should have more diversity in ownership structure, type
of housing, and income mix.
Soutll ast Area Dialo,ue Sunmia-y p.
Api126 2005
