City Council Regular Meeting — 08/22/OS
DRAFT Minutes - Page 27
Additional discussion included managing fire calls while
responding to other emergencies; proposed use of Fire
Department to respond to any vehicular accident with injury; and
determination of a trial period to use the skills of current
employees.
Gale Pederson, 929 W Roselawn
Ms. Pederson spoke in support of the motion that time was of the
essence for accidents with injuries, and the Fire Department was
equipped with 35 EMT's and minimal response time; and opined
that the City needed to utilize the current staff available now.
City Manager Beets noted that, due to coordination between the
Fire and Police Departments, and Allina and the Dispatch
Center, staff would keep the City Council and public apprised of
when this service came on line, but noted that it would not be
immediate; and clarified that the six month trial would be from
initiation of service, not from today's decision.
Councilmembers concurred.
Councilmember Schroeder requested that staff provide additional
information in their report as to the rationale for thirty-five
EMT's, their training, and figure costs of training into that
analysis.
Roll Call
Ayes: Ihlan; Schroeder; Kough; Maschka and Klausing.
Nays: None.
11. Consider Draft Request for Proposals (RFP's) for Recycling Draft RFP
Project Recycling Project
Councilmember Schroeder expressed his concern regarding the
magnitude of the draft RFP; specifically deviating from the
Public Works, Environment and Transportation (PWET)
Commission's recammendation for single-sort, and the RFP's
inclusion of dual sort.
Mayor Klausing opined, from his understanding of reviewing the
Council tape, that it was Council consensus to put together other
options to achieve the best price, whether single or dual sort.
