REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION I�L��[i�7f��yN� ITEM NO: 5.a Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: Recognitions Ifiem Description: Acceptance of Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association 2005 "Award of Excellence" for the Harriet Alexander Nature Center W Id Rice Festival BACKGROUND The Minnesota Recreation and Park Association present an annual award for notable projects and programs of excellence. The City of Roseville has been selected as a 2005 Award Wnner in the Programming and Events category for the Harriet Alexander Nature Center Wild Rice Festival which was sponsored by FORHANC, the Friends of Harriet Alexander Nature Center organization The WId Rice Festival is a unique community event that allows for a special cultural connection through arts, recreation and food. The WId Rice Festival is a fine example of the community coming together in support of its local resources. Following the fall event, FORHANC presented the Parks and Recreation Department with the proceeds from this event to assist with annual financial responsibilities at the Nature Center. This recognition is a tribute to Roseville's willingness to support its community resources. MRPA representative, Mr. John �Iholrt� (City of Roseville Resident and Washington County Parks Senior Planner) will be attending to present the award. POLICY OBJECTIVE City departments attempt to work with organizations and citizens throughout the community to provide the highest quality of events, services, programs and facilities. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS None. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the acceptance of the Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association Award of Excellence for Programming and Events for the 2004 WId Rice Festival. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED Motion authorizing the acceptance of the Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association 2005 Award of Excellence for Programming and Events for the 2004 Wld Rice Festival.
