Association of Metropolitan Municipalities <br />AMM News <br />July 26,2005 <br />Local Official/Peter Bell Meetings Scheduled <br />Archives <br />Metropolitan Council Chair Peter Bell has asked AIv�� to assist the Council in co-producing <br />meetings with local elected officials. The purpose of the meetings is to improve the dialogue <br />between the Council and Metro Area cities. AMM is enthusiastic about this role because open and <br />continual contact between local and regional policy makers should (may?) lead to better regional <br />policy and better policy implementation. <br />The meetings will be informal round table discussions between Chair Bell, elected city officials <br />and senior staff. Tr� order to generate maximum participation, the meetings will be conducted <br />around the region, start at 7:3(} a.m. and end no later than �:�U a.�n. Finally and most importantly, <br />the meeting agenda will be created by local participants, AMM and the Met CounciL (In the near <br />future, we will soliciting agenda topics from members.) <br />We er1visian the Agenda to include the following: <br />• Welcome �z�oz�. t��e host city <br />. Quick introduction of the attendees <br />. Brief introduction by Peter Bell of the topics ti�at he wants to discuss <br />• Brief introduction from one or more of the local elected officials of the topics that they wish <br />to discuss <br />• Informal discussion of the topics, including agreement on Met Council, AMM, or city <br />follow up where information or staff action is requested <br />• Adj ourn <br />Potential agenda topics for the Council and AMM cities could include: <br />• Met Council's vision for the Metro Area and policy issues it faces <br />. Projected growth of Metro Area and the coilar counties and the relationshi� between �E <br />. How the Met Council should react to projected Metro Area growth in crucial areas of: <br />o Tra.��s�ortation/transit <br />o Sewer capacity <br />o Drinking water/siorm water management <br />o Aviation <br />o Others <br />Communications between Met Council policy makers and city policy makers tlaxoughout the <br />Comprehensive Planning process <br />. Tools the Met Council is considering to assist a�dloz direct cities in the next few years <br />. The role of the Met Council vis' a vis' municipal governments and the Pawlenty <br />Administration <br />� Prospective 2006 legislative initiatives being considered by the Council or by municipal <br />interests <br />• Others <br />
