Mayor Klausing pledged that this process would have public involvement. Councilmember Maschka noted the substantial open space represented in the City's maps, and questioned the City's ranking regionally and nationally. Councilmember Maschka noted pending impacts on public transportation; infi�l housing; affordable housing; and the school district. Councilmember Schroeder opined that the Twin Cities' Builders Association and the Metropolitan Council should not be on the Task Force, just used as a data source. Further discussion included whether Option B as presented by staff (information collection) was the preferred route; process; timetable; staff direction; Comprehensive Plan discussion and process; involvement of Planning Commission and I-�RA Chairs in developing a plan; a charge for the Task Force provided by the City Council. Mayor Klausing suggested that a report be considered at the second meeting in January of 2006. Community Development Director Dennis Welsch noted that the Comprehensive Plan process needed to be completed by the end of 2007; and the City Council needed to provide direction to the Planning Commission prior to initiating the process. Mr. Welsh requested the City Council creation of a charge for the Tasl� Force (i.e., how people are appointed to it, etc.); and noted that he and department staff didn't have time in December to accomplish the task, but January of 2006 should prove feasible. Councilmember Maschka referenced the monies available from the �i�A and School District; suggesting the Task Force be implemented in early January; and opined that "this community works."
