Department Approval <br />�� ,�: �� <br />Item Description: <br />l�'�, <br />Jy <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />2010 Budget Prioritization Process - Continued <br />Date: 10/26/09 <br />Item No. : 10. a <br />City Manager Approval <br />� / <br />BACKGROUND <br />Enclosed with this RCA, is a new prioritization matrix that incorporates a composite ranking of <br />Councilmembers' individual priority rankings. The matrix has been sorted by the composite ranking from <br />highest to lowest. The right-hand column depicts whether a program is funded or not based on these <br />rankings. <br />The Council is now asked to consider whether these composite rankings fairly depict the general <br />preferences of the Council, or if further prioritization is desired. The Council is also asked to invite Staff to <br />comment on the operational impacts of these priorities including any service impacts that might result from <br />any program cuts. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />Establishing a budget process that aligns resources with desired outcomes is consistent with governmental <br />best practices, provides greater transparency of program costs, and ensures that budget dollars are allocated <br />in the manner that creates the greatest value. <br />FnvaNCiaL IlviracTs <br />Not applicable. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Not applicable. <br />REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION <br />Review and discuss City services and begin the ranking and prioritization process. <br />Prepared by: Chris Miller, Finance Director <br />Attachments: A: City Council Priority Composite Ranking <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />
